Greetings all,
Planning is underway for the 2018 "Ghost Train" run which is scheduled for 27 October 2018. Our regular run day will start at 10 am and end at 1 pm on that day. This will allow the train crews some time to eat, check equipment and relax before the Ghost Train run starts. It will also allow the Kitsap Foster Care Association members time to decorate the depot, get the line fencing setup and allow their vignettes to get setup and in position.
There will be a mandatory all Ghost Train Crew briefing at 1600 (4pm), the run will commence at 1700 (5 pm) with plans to end at 2100 (9 pm). This is a high profile run with lots of publicity for KLS and routinely draws an extremely big crowd of riders. In addition, it is the only night run that KLS operates. Ticket sales will be fixed at 1500 riders for the four hour period of the run. The pace will be intense and we will require a lot of help. I would like to have key positions assigned so that we can better prepare and plan for the event.
We plan on putting 8 locomotives on the line with each pulling 2 astride cars. We will need engineers and conductors for those locomotives. If you are planning on running your personal locomotive for this event please contact me and let me know. I also need to know if you have a conductor, and if you will be bringing your own astride cars. We will also try to have at least one locomotive in reserve and will need to crew that as well.
We will need a crew to run the Depot: I have a couple of volunteers for this area but can always use more so if you are interested please let me know as soon as possible.
We will also employ a Crash Crew of 4 people who will be in a standby status with equipment pre-staged to handle derailments, mechanical problems and other issues that may arise. Again, let me know if you are interested in being a member of this very important group.
This is a super fun event. Not only is it our only night run of the year, it is a great opportunity for KLS to work with and have a positive impact on the public. So, please, come on out and help. Let’s make the 2018 edition of the "Ghost Train" the greatest ever!
Thanks,
Don Rogers
